The only glacial fjord in the lower 48. I have been deeply involved in this
project (pun intended), done SCUBA dives to a bit better than 200 feet to
take pictures and gather samples (not supported or authorized by any
government entity, but the data was welcome), and witnessed/reported fish
kills for a number of years.
Theories abound, the environmentalist nutbars have done *nothing* but muck
up the works by injecting emotional bullshit into the mix.
One thing emerging that no one expected is a huge increase in alder and
other deciduous pollen from logging operations clearing away fir and other
evergreens allowing the wind and weather to wash pollen into the watershed
at a greater rate than the system is used to. Another integer *may* have
been the recent (like 5 and 8 years ago) draining of hydroelectric based
freshwater lakes into the canal to perform maintenance. It will take many
years to determine the facts, but that doesn't stop the hippies from holding
protests, injecting rabid conjecture, etc.
