May not apply to your situation.
My packing line input shaft was 1" too short for the pulleys I needed. So, I
got a taper lock base from a two piece pulley. Made up a custom outer half
for two different size pulleys. Then a short piece of extra shaft with the
key way cut. Put in a long key accross both original shaft and extra piece.
then pulled the taper lock tight over the two pieces and the key.
its only held for 18 years so far.
