The Ottawa Citizen
Published: Tuesday, June 17, 2008
While conceding that he had a point, the Citizen editorial describes Pierre
Poilievre, MP for Nepean-Carleton, as a figure "whose schtick (is) a pseudo
populism." Populism is of course a put-down term for democracy used by elites
such as
journalists and judges who think they know better than ordinary people how to
run the
country.

Mr. Poilievre commands almost the largest majority in Canada, in a national
capital
riding rich in highly educated voters. The Citizen's "pseudo-populism" comment
is an
insult to them.

Mr. Poilievre has won the riding in successive elections because he articulately
represents the values of his electorate and represents a new political
generation
that gives us some hope that the corrupt and elitist values of the older
generation
will finally be pushed aside.

David A. Kahn,

Nepean
