Good post, but they should have had this thought -- what if we lose --
before they started the war. Now we are facing the consequences of
losing, which indeed are not pleasant and are likely worse than
outlines in the op-ed piece of WSJ.

Iraq = not good! But, who has agendas that would benefit from surrender?
Name them all. And are these agendas becoming self-fulfilling prophecies?
Who are the pawns being manipulated to create the atmosphere to further the
agendas? Who really has access to the whole real truth about anything? If
one were to answer these questions without any political bias...THAT would
be interesting. The people that THINK they know scare me. Imagine a
renowned scientist proving his theory by only using data that supports that
theory. That's all I see, especially on this NG, is very biased arguments
and emotional tripe...no substance. The worst thing is people BELIEVE they
KNOW everything and anyone that has a different view is uninformed or lying
or just stupid. Have you noticed how the shallow people's argument quickly
degrades to a personal attack and then are outraged when they get the same
in return?

Mmm - I dont think I know very much about anything - except to see
something REALLY stupid is going on. America will eventually get sick
of its troops dying, the cost to the economy, and pull out. Vietnam Mk
2. (and then the rest of its allies can bring their troops home as
well.)

This is a part of the world where fighting each other (or anyone else)
is a national sport, has been for thousands of years. The best the
world can hope for is a less (publically) bloodthirsty tyrant to
replace Saddam and keep things under control.

This will be a tragedy for the world - an America that retreats to
isolationism. Irrespective of the rights or wrongs of the Iraq mess,
America is the major power in the world that has SOME sort of
conscience(sp) - if it retreats to its borders hurt and angry, then
heaven help the world next time something DOES need to be done. Its
happened before - late entry in WW1 and WW2 was a consequence of the
isolationist movement in America.. Fortunately, some one made the hard,
moral decisions. And the world benefited.

The Americans moved into Bosnia while the rest of the world did nothing
- that was noble and worthwhile. May they have the courage and guts to
do it again if the need arises.

But while politicians posture and seek to save face, then the mess will
continue and people will die. And while we have adversarial politics,
no one will admit its a mess and say "Sorry - we goofed"

Left and Right are irrelevant - a way of passing time in idle debate,
sitting in front of our computers with full bellies. Cant we all move
on from that, and be a bit more grown up?

Good post Andrew. It's nice to see someone think something out without a
vicious agenda. Thanks, 73.
