I just looked at my Enco flier and it has 6"diamond plated grinding wheels
that fit my Horrible Fright carbide bench grinder. They are on sale for
83.99. My question is which one to get? They have 100 coarse, 150 med. and
220 fine. I use the carbide cutters on wood and phenolics so I have to make
a large change in the profile of the tool. It needs much greater angles. I
could do most of the grinding with a standard wheel and am going to use the
diamond for the sharpening. I can't afford all three so which one would be
the most useful?
As usual, thanks in advance,
Dick

The 220, if you can do most of the grinding on another wheel.
That is where I would go.
Cheers

Ugh. Where is our grinder guru? I believe he told me that electro plated
sucked. Better
a resinous bond.

Please log in for more thread options Thanks all. Harold e-mailed me and that's exactly what he told me - get the
resinous. I need to find one of those on sale now.

Someone on the uk model engineering group was speaking of some asian
import diamond wheels, suitable for carbide grinding, priced very low,
$25 equivalent price range.
Ahhh!
http://www.rdgtools.com/acatalog/DIAMOND_GRINDING_WHEEL_S.html
More of the toll and cutter grinding sort of wheel, but the flat ones
would work fairly well, and the price is better than the large plated wheel!
Dunno if anyone on this side of the pond has a stock of these or not.
The 6 inch diameter (150 mm, more or less) diameter ones that I have
seen, had a layer of diamond that would have been maybe 1/16 or a bit
less thick, on a deeper substrate.
I don't suppose it would take a lot of abuse, to get through teh
diamond layer, but with a light touch, they should last a long time.
Cheers
