hi guys :-)

I made this wall-mounted heavy-duty parallel-crank (folding) mechanism
to hold about 50 feet of 6-4 SO-cord (on a big steel reel) to my garage
wall. I want run my welder, unisaw, etc, out in the middle of my
driveway. right now I have no lathe or mill here - I made the four arms,
welded them all together on the same "jig", so they're exactly alike
center to center. same for the subframe parts they attach to "centered
alike by jig-rig".

the slightly more difficult part of this affair, though, is I'm planning
to incorporate a totally mechanical Counting Mechanism part - the CM
part should count the turns of the reel as I unwind the cable (when I'll
be far from the reel, tugging the 'outlets end' of the SO cord out) and,
after a certain number of turns 'outfeed', the CM should -stop- the reel
from turning further. having a WEE bit of trouble simplifying the CM
part of the deal, though.

so far I have: the folding mechanism is 98% made and mounted to the
wall, and I have the steel reel, and a massive stud to mount it on. and
I have this old piece of gear rack, and visualize an eccentric, and some
pawls (one pawl hinged and with a spring as part of it), and a few
'rocker arm-like' parts ...

photos and drawings of what I have so far:

ideas on simplification for the counter, and better ideas certainly
welcome :-)

thanks guys,

toolie

Why bother? Why not fit an friction device, if you're worried about
overrun? One that can be disengaged quickly for rewinding.
BTW, running a welder off a coiled power lead is not advisable.

It probably already is fixed focus -- he says
they are cell-phone pictures.

So, the opposite of fixed focus is broke focus?
