I got in some of the XXGT series inserts this week at work. Have not
yet tried them.

Got some little (1/4" IC) 80 deg diamonds for the small boring
bars, some 3/8" ditto, for the larger boring bars, and some 1/2"IC square
ones (DoH! Meant to order the diamond shaped!)

Have not had a chance to use any of them yet, but will report.

Man o mighty! They sure do have an edge on them. I hope they cut as
good as they look like they should!

Cheers

Hi Trevor

I also bought some CCGT inserts recently and following Peter`s
suggestion of Walter I bought 10 of the WK1 grade which are uncoated.
They are extremly sharp and leave a fantastic finish. I find they are
best for shallow cuts of around a few thou. I find that for deeper
(or roughing) cuts I use the CCMT and then finish with the GT.
The Gt are great for those 1/2 thou type cuts which I find the CCMT to
tend to rub instead of cut.
I also got 4 DCGT type inserts which are Kermantel, I think, but of
the same sharp profile. Again these are uncoated and as yet untested.

Cheers

Paul

Yeah. They ARE sharp! I figure that they will work great for finishing.

The catalog spec's the speeds at 1000 surface feet per minute, and
rates them for "medium" machining, rather than finishing. :-)

I suspect that they shall work just fine, well outside their envelope!
