No point putting glass scales on when the display can't handle them.

Well managed to get a few moments and fit the X and Y scales, Z is
going to have to wait for another time as it's all new ground.

The Y scale did have a bracket but it didn't match so it was a bit of
cut and shunt two tapped holes, two spacers and it went on OK.

Y axis was the easy one as it's all flat on the back. The reader head
holes matched up to original so it only meant one new hole in the bed
for the other end of the scale.

Reader head fitted and connected up no problems it's straight forward.
The manual isn't great as it's in Chinglish but after about 7 reads
you can understand most of it. Point is this has way more features
than I'll ever get to grips with.
Got it zeroed and resolution set and it works fine. managed to sort
the bolt hole sequence out after two go's and I'll probably do a
laminated cheat sheet of the common functions.

One thing I haven't sussed is the ABS/INC button as it looks to swap
units when pressed, Oh well sort that later, none of my micrometers or
rulers have that button <g>

All in all I'm pleased with it, display is rock steady, does what it
says on the box and anything else is a bonus.

Got stacks of bolts, screws, brackets shims etc left over as they
supply a generic fitting kit and there is more than enough to fit
these.

See how it goes for a couple of months and then see about sticking one
on the lathe

John Hi,

Looking to update that old 2 axis Anilam on my Bridgy later this year,
any installation pictures when you have sorted the Z axis would be a
great help. Pleeeese :-)

Keith

Anilman DRO's can be much easier to deal with than Heidenhain because
on the whole Anilam use a standard TTL output for the scales.
Heidenhain made their own standards so retrofitting other peoples
scales can be impossible.

Good point Charles, I will do a bit more research before I spend lots
of money. At the moment the Anilam works very well most of the time;
occaisionally it just does not fire up particularly when cold. Both
scales seem to be fine now they have been cleaned so I suspect the
unit has just got tired. If I know that I am going to use it for
several days then I just leave it on but lately we have something of a
family crisis under way and it has spent quite a while switched off. I
had three axis on my old RF25 so thought that it would be an
opportunity to go that way with the Bridgy, however if they are
standard output scales then I might (fingers crossed) be able to
achieve that on the cheap (relatively speaking that is of course).

Regards

Keith
